USA : Graduate Research Assistants in the area of Wireless Communications Systems
Job Title: PhD Position in Wireless Communications, at TCOM Dept. of the School of Electrical and Commuter Engineering, University of Oklahoma (Tulsa Campus), USA.
Description: Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD position (Graduate Research Assistants) in the area of Wireless Communications Systems with focus on Self-Organizing Networks (SON)www.qson.org . The desired start date is Spring/Fall-2015.
RESEARCH OUTLINE:
The candidate is expected to pursue research in area of SON in context of next generation heterogeneous cellular systems. The focus will remain on the radio access side of the cellular networks. The objective is to investigate novel theoretical as well heuristic SON solutions that will help to enhance performance of emerging and next generation cellular systems in terms of capacity, QoS, energy efficiency and economy of deployment and operation. To this end candidate will propose, develop and investigate new advanced mechanisms and algorithms within following themes:
- Enabling SON: e.g. minimization of drive test, autonomous estimation of KPIs at BSs.
- Self-configuration: e.g. Automatic configuration of neighbor relationship list, radio frequency.
- Self-Optimization: e.g. Automatic optimization of antenna parameters, self-optimization cell sizes for energy savings.
- Self-Healing: e.g. Cell outage detection, root cause analysis and compensation mechanism design.
- Self–Coordination: Solutions to avoid parametric and objective based conflicts among multiple concurrently operational SON algorithms.
- Empowering SON through Big Data: Exploiting data analytics to shift SON from reactive to pro-active paradigm. The candidate will have the opportunity to be part of an international research project QSON (www.qson.org). The project consortium consists of teams from University of Oklahoma, USA; University of Surrey, UK, CTTC, Spain; university of Leeds, UK and QMIC, Qatar.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should hold a degree (preferably master level) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Applied Mathematics, or similar fields by the time of joining. The candidates should have excellent grades and very good skills in oral and written communication. Key requirements that will be used as selection criteria include:
Essential:
- Strong background and interest in at least one of the following disciplines:
-
- Mathematical Modeling & Optimization Theory
- Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
- Operations Research
- Big Data Analytics
- Command on radio access architecture of cellular systems, notably LTE/LTE-A.
- Ability to work in self-motivated manner.Desirable:
- Ability to develop and run sophisticated simulation models e.g. in Matlab or C++How to Apply:
The position is available from spring 2015. Interested candidates are requested to send a detailed CV (including the names of at least three referees), transcript of records (stating the relevant taught courses taken), 1-2 page research statement (summarizing how their past work provides them the background for research in SON) to [email protected] (www.ali-imra.org ) with subject ‘OU-GRA-2015’. The CV should include GRE scores (and TOEFL/IELTS scores if international). Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the positions are filled.
