TWAS Prizes for Developing Countries Scientists, 2016
The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) awards nine prizes of USD 15,000 each to individual scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least 10 years. Prizes are open in the fields of Science and/or to the application of Science and Technology to Sustainable Development.TWAS’s mission is to recognize, support and promote excellence in scientific research in the developing world.TWAS, the World Academy of Sciences-for the advancement of science in developing countries – is an autonomous international organization founded in Triste, Italy. TWAS represents, support and encourage the pursuit excellence in science in developing countries.
Degree Level: Prizes are available to individual scientists.
Subject Offered: Prizes will be awarded in nine fields of Science and/or to the application of Science and Technology to Sustainable Development.

Eligibility:
- Candidates for a TWAS Prize must be scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least ten years immediately prior to their nomination. They must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
- Scientific research achievement of outstanding significance for the development of scientific thought.
- Outstanding contribution to the application of science and technology to sustainable development.
- Members of TWAS and candidates for TWAS membership are not eligible for TWAS Prizes.|
- Self-nominations will not be considered.

- Nomination Form: Nominations must be made on the nomination form and clearly state the contribution the candidate has made to the development of the particular field of science for which the prize would be awarded.
- The nominee’s CV and her/his complete list of publications are also required.
Scholarship Benefit: Every year, TWAS awards nine prizes of USD15,000 each. Each prize is accompanied by a medal. Prizes are usually presented on a special occasion, often coinciding with the General Meeting of TWAS.

TWAS, The World Academy of Sciences, until 2004 named Third World Academy of Sciences and TWAS, the academy of sciences for the developing world before September 2012, is a merit-based science academy uniting 1,000 scientists in some 70 countries. Its principal aim is to promote scientific capacity and excellence for sustainable development in the South (see North-South divide). Its headquarters are located on the premises of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy.
