Scholarship Description: Studentship applications are invited for Graduate Teaching and Research Assistants (GTRAs ) to commence 19th September 2013, for one, two or three years. Studentships cover the value of UK/EU tuition fees for up to three years, plus a bursary currently worth £7000 per annum. Applications are welcomed from outstanding UK/EU or international applicants wishing to commence full or part time study for a doctorate as well as from those already undertaking doctoral study. It is a condition of application that GTRAs will be registered as doctoral students within the School of Education and Social Work. The School of Education and Social Work is seeking to recruit three current or accepted full-time/part-time doctoral students for Doctoral studentships. Applications are invited from outstanding applicants to commence on 19th September 2013 for one, two or three years. Applications are welcome from UK/EU or international students already undertaking a doctorate at Sussex or accepted to do so. It is a condition of the scholarships that their holders are registered as doctoral students within the School of Education and Social Work.Successful applicants will contribute either5.5 hours per week (throughout the year) or 8 hours per week (term time only), as Graduate Teaching/Research Assistants, to some of the following activities within the School: -contributing to teaching and course support, across a range of courses; -supporting research bids, through activities such as literature reviews; -undertaking research as agreed with Centre/Cluster Directors; -helping organize and support research seminars; -providing administrative support to Research Centre/Cluster meetings; -assisting with research dissemination through production of newsletters and updating websites; -developing and disseminating Research Centre/Cluster publicity materials; -organizing activities (such as reading groups, work in progress seminars) to promote the research environment for staff and doctoral students; -assisting staff with e-learning developments, including virtual learning environment etc.

Duration of award(s): Assistants (GTRAs ) to commence 19th September 2013, for one, two or three years.
What does it cover? EU/UK Fee Waiver for 2013-14 and a £7000 bursary per annum. The studentships are designed to provide partial support for tuition fees and living costs. Other costs of full time study and accommodation and living costs are the responsibility of the studentship holder. The studentships carry a bursary of £7000 per annum and tuition fees to the value of UK/EU fees will be paid in full for a maximum of three year’s doctoral registration, subject to satisfactory progress and satisfactory performance on Research Centre/Cluster activities.
Selection Criteria: The studentships will be awarded to people who: • have submitted a high quality proposal for doctoral work which has been accepted, or have already begun the postgraduate research programme; • are supervised by staff associated with the School’s Research Centres or Cluster; • agree to contribute to the Research Centre or Cluster activities.
