The International Max Planck Research School for Brain and Behavior at the University of Bonn and Florida Atlantic University is a collaboration with the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and the Max Planck associated Center for Advanced European Science and Research (caesar). The school offers a completely funded international PhD training and research program in the neurosciences – in either Bonn, Germany or Jupiter, Florida. Available Subject: Research areas at IMPRS Brain and Behavior are many and varied, including: neuronal circuits and behavior, learning and memory, molecular signaling in neurons, biophysics of neurons and glia, nervous system development/disorders, and mammalian sensory processing. Research techniques are just as numerous and range from standard neuroscience techniques to free behavior, advanced computational and statistical techniques, in vivomultiphoton imaging and imaging protein function, in vivo electrophysiology(whole-cell and extracellular).
Degree Level: Positions are open for pursuing full-time PhD program at the University of Bonn or Florida Atlantic University.
Scholarship Benefits: The doctoral positions are fully funded offering a competitive monthly income (contract).
Eligibility: The PhD program is open to candidates holding a Master’s degree in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or other relevant subjects. Students currently working on their Master thesis are also encouraged to apply. In exceptional situations, students holding only a Bachelor degree may be accepted. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a good command of the English language.
Nationality: The IMPRS for Brain and Behavior PhD program aims to recruit exceptional doctoral students from all nationalities and immerse them in a stimulating scientific culture of interaction and cooperation.
Scholarship Description: The International Max Planck School for Brain and Behavior IMPRS Brain involves two partnerships on each side of the Atlantic: the Center for Advanced European Studies and Research (caesar) and the University of Bonn in Germany – the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience (MPFI) and Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in the United States. This transatlantic partnership will maximize the benefits for the students in the program by having them directly involved in the outstanding research programs established at the two Max Planck Society run Institutes and their partner Universities. From this union students will benefit enormously by the strong sense of community between the local partners and within the Max Planck family of other neuroscience IMPRS’s throughout Germany.
The IMPRS for Brain and Behavior offers a complete PhD training and research program in the neurosciences. Students will receive both theoretical and hands-on training in a large range of cutting-edge techniques. In addition, they will be exposed to a variety of research areas all touching on how sensory information is encoded in neural circuits and is ultimately transferred to behavior. The language of instruction and in the labs is English. Students take courses and attend scientific symposia at the partner institutions in Bonn, Germany and Florida, USA, – thereby exposing students to an exceptionally broad group of international scientists and the opportunity to earn a doctorate under outstanding research conditions.
