Scholarship Description: The Universities of Cologne and Leipzig are now accepting applications for 2 Doctoral Fellowships. International applicants are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

About University: The University of Cologne is a university in Cologne, Germany. It was the sixth university to be established in Central Europe and, although it closed in 1798 before being re-established in 1919, it is now one of the largest universities in Germany with more than 48,000 students.

Degree Level: Scholarships are available to pursue Doctoral programme.

Available Subject: Positions are available on following topics:

  • “Deep molecular characterization of eukaryotic microorganisms´ diversity and community composition in forest soils and the canopy region across biomes using a multiple barcoding approaches – micDiv“
  • The PhD-projects are part of the DFG-Priority Programme” Taxon-Omics: New Approaches for Discovering and Naming Biodiversity“(SPP 1991).

Scholarship Benefits: Scholarships are limited to 3 years, 65 percent of a full-time employment, Salary: Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L.

Number of Scholarships: Up to two doctoral scholarships are available.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

We expect candidates to have an excellent master or equivalent in biology with a strong background in molecular biology, evolution and ecology as well as data analyses, and a strong interest and endurance in field biology. Fieldwork will include sampling in tropical areas. The ability to communicate and cooperate in the team is a precondition.

Eligible Nationalities: International applicants are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

October 2017 and should include a cover letter describing motivations, research interest, relevant background, and experience; curriculum vitae in tabular form; one letter of recommendation; the address of two referees; copies of certificates (Bachelor, Master, Diploma). Applicants should indicate which of the two positions (Cologne or Leipzig) they apply for.
